Recently, many onion farmers have been asking about the issue of "white crazy" in green onions. In fact, this problem is usually caused by three main factors: one disease and two pests. Understanding the causes is essential for effective treatment and prevention.
1. Gray Mold. This fungal disease typically starts with small gray or white spots on the leaves, which then develop into white necrotic lesions. These lesions are often oval-shaped and can merge together, forming long stripes that cause the leaves to twist and eventually die. To manage this, it's recommended to use a new-generation fungicide called Enzymes at a dilution of 1000 times. Spraying regularly helps prevent the spread of the disease and protects the crop.
2. Thrips. These tiny insects feed on onions using their sucking mouthparts, causing yellow and white streaks on the leaves. Severe infestations can lead to distorted and browned foliage. For chemical control, you can spray a solution of 20% acetamiprid diluted 3000 times or 10% imidacloprid diluted 1500 times. Both are effective in reducing thrip populations and protecting the plants.
3. Onion Leafminer. The larvae of this pest feed inside the leaves, creating pale, irregular tunnels. As they grow, these tunnels expand and become more noticeable. The larvae move back and forth within the leaf tissue, creating a network of tunnels. When multiple larvae are present, the damage becomes more severe, leading to yellowing and weakening of the plant. To treat this, a 2% avermectin solution diluted 1000 times is an effective option. Applying it early can help reduce damage and protect the crop from further infestation.
By identifying the specific cause of "white crazy," farmers can take targeted action to keep their green onions healthy and productive. Regular monitoring, proper irrigation, and timely application of appropriate treatments are key to managing these issues effectively.
