Feeding Early Autumn Silkworm "Five Preventions"

The ideal temperature for high-temperature resistant silkworms is between 24°C and 27°C. If the indoor temperature rises above 30°C, immediate action must be taken to lower it. After feeding the silkworms, doors and windows should be closed to maintain a stable environment. A shade structure should be installed before and after the silkworm rearing area. The floor should be sprinkled with water, and mechanical ventilation systems should be used to ensure proper air circulation. To prevent hunger and heat stress, silkworms grow rapidly, so the amount of mulberry leaves provided and the frequency of feedings should be increased. During the 4th to 5th instar stages, silkworms should be fed 4 to 5 times daily to support their growth. Before starting silkworm rearing in early autumn, thorough disinfection of the silkworms is essential. After disinfection, they should be exposed to the open air for 3 to 4 days to fully eliminate any remaining pathogens. Regular use of fresh lime powder and disease-prevention agent No. 1 can help sterilize the environment and reduce the risk of disease outbreaks. During hot and dry seasons, mulberry leaves are often damaged by pests such as mulberry hoppers. To control this, an 80% Dichlorvos Emulsion diluted at 2000 times can be applied twice to effectively kill the pests and maintain leaf quality. During the peak season of rice and cotton, typically around August, care must be taken when applying pesticides to avoid contaminating the mulberry fields. Farmers should pay attention to wind direction to prevent pesticide drift. For areas close to grain and cotton fields, it is important to collect and test feed leaves carefully. Only mulberry leaves free from damage or contamination should be harvested. In case silkworms are poisoned, they should be rescued immediately by removing contaminated sand, providing fresh and non-toxic mulberry leaves, or spraying the leaves with a 1% fresh lime solution or a 500-times diluted adrenaline solution to aid in detoxification.
