New breakthroughs in detection methods for coronary artery disease

Release date: 2012-10-31

From the 23rd Great Wall International Cardiology Conference held recently, I learned that a new study can show the severity of blood flow blockage in the coronary arteries and help doctors identify the pathological changes that lead to ischemia and whether stent therapy is needed. Flow reserve fraction (FFR) measurements have been made and are used in clinical applications in the field of cardiac interventional therapy in China.
Studies have shown that the use of blood flow reserve fraction measurement techniques to determine the degree of hemodynamic changes in coronary stenosis has reduced the relative risk of re-admission to patients with stable coronary disease due to emergency revascularization by 86%. The results of this study were published in the world's authoritative New England Journal of Medicine in August this year.
Coronary artery disease, also known as coronary heart disease, is one of the most common heart diseases affecting millions of people around the world. It is caused by plaque causing the artery to narrow or block, which limits blood flow and reduces the amount of oxygen reaching the heart.
Professor Huo Yong, director of the Department of Cardiology and Heart Center of Peking University First Hospital and director of the Cardiovascular Interventional Therapy Training Center of the Chinese Medical Association, said, "This latest research is of great significance. I believe this technology should become a domestic treatment for coronary artery disease and coronary artery. Diagnostic criteria for ischemic lesions."
