China's Recovery of Shrimp Products from the United States

Responding to anti-dumping lawsuit this year, China’s recovery of shrimp products from the US has become the second largest supplier of shrimp products in the United States, accounting for 11.3% of the total shrimp imports in the local market.
The current US shrimp import volume continues to grow, although the growth rate is much slower compared to the previous period. This is in line with last year's shrimp import trend. At the end of last year, shrimp imports from the United States market also decreased from the previous months. Despite this, in October this year, the US shrimp market recorded a record of 67,230 tons. From June to October this year, the US shrimp market imports and imports have increased, respectively 468526 tons and 32.4550 million US dollars, an increase of 13% and 14%.
Nowadays, Thailand remains the main supplier to the US shrimp market. Its supply accounts for 32.6% of the total imports in the United States. The second supplier is China, which accounts for 11.3% of the total shrimp imports in the US market. Followed by Indonesia and Ecuador. The four countries together accounted for 65.3% of the total US shrimp market imports. This shows that the trend of increasing concentration of supply sources for the United States shrimp market during the same period last year has continued until now.
Last year, the total supply of these four countries accounted for 59% of the total imports of the US shrimp market. Among the four countries this year, China’s supply and supply growth was the most obvious, rising by 62% and 73% respectively.
Excluding certain specifications of frozen and headed shelled shrimp, imports of other imported shrimp products have remained stable or have increased. This year, the most significant increase in US shrimp market imports was frozen processed shrimp products, with imports increasing by 40.2%. Imports and imports of these shrimp products increased by 37.8% and 42.9% respectively. These include canned shrimp products, with imports and imports increasing by 37% and 80.7% respectively. The unit price of canned shrimp imports increased 31.9% over the same period of last year.
The total imports of these shrimp products have increased, but the unit price of some products has shown a negative trend and has declined. In the processing of frozen breaded shrimp in value-added shrimp products, the total import volume increased by nearly 20% while the import unit price remained almost unchanged.
Frozen shellfish is still the most important product imported from the United States. In 2006, imports accounted for 43.2% of the total US shrimp market. Compared with 47.7% of the total imports of head-shrimp shrimp from the United States last year, the share has decreased. This year, the import volume of frozen breaded shrimp increased slightly by 2.1% to 202,257 tons, and the import volume was 1,406.60 million US dollars. Among them, the most important product specification for headed shelled shrimp products is 31-40/kg. The sources of head-to-head shelled shrimp are also relatively concentrated, mainly from the three countries of the above four countries except China.
In 2006, the import volume of frozen breaded shrimp in the United States increased by 19.8%, and the unit price of imports remained stable. China is the main supplier of frozen breaded shrimp in the U.S. market, accounting for 80% of the total U.S. market imports. Followed by Thailand, accounting for 13%.
Near the end of the year, the price of domestic shrimp in the United States had a slight upward trend after continued decline in recent months. However, the slight increase did not return to the previous price level. This is mainly a large number of US Gulf shrimp market. The domestic shrimp industry recovered after Hurricane Katrina. This has led to oversupply of domestic shrimp and has had a negative impact on prices. Most suppliers have considered discounted inventory processing.
China's shrimp exports have been slowly recovering since it hit an unprecedented blow in 2004. From the perspective of China's shrimp exports to the United States this year, the share of frozen shrimp exports is small, and the amount of processed products has increased. Eighty percent of frozen breaded shrimps in the US market are from China. This aspect is the after-effects of the 2004 warm-water shrimp case, and on the other hand, it reflects the business ideas of Chinese companies to avoid trade risks. In 2006, our company’s success in anti-dumping lawsuits broke the barriers, restored the export of shrimp products, and encouraged the confidence of domestic practitioners. From the perspective of the increase in the supply and supply of shrimp products in China this year, it is expected that shrimp exports will gradually pick up in the coming period. Early summer
