Israel develops new intercom system in magnetic resonance environment

Release date: 2009-09-28

An innovative optical communication system allows medical professionals to work in a quiet and calm environment during interventional magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI), enabling seamless interaction with both technicians and patients. This technology plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall experience and safety of MRI procedures.

The MR Optical Communication (IMROC) system, developed by Israeli company Optoacoustics, is a non-magnetic solution that uses fiber-optic technology and specialized sensors. Designed specifically for use within the strong magnetic fields of an MRI scanner, it ensures clear and uninterrupted communication. The system supports up to eight simultaneous conversations, significantly reducing background noise and interference from MRI gradients, resulting in improved audio quality.

At the core of the IMROC system are fiber-optic headphones equipped with ultra-thin earmuffs and a high-performance microphone that enables real-time noise cancellation and enhanced hearing. The system also features an optical switch unit that allows staff to control the communication quickly and efficiently. Additionally, it integrates an MP4 audio entertainment system, offering patients a more comfortable and enjoyable experience during long scans.

The IMROC system is particularly valuable in interventional MRI, where doctors and radiologists need constant communication with the control room while performing procedures under MRI guidance. Traditional electronic devices are not suitable due to the risk of interference from the magnetic field, and the MRI machine itself can generate significant noise. The IMROC system overcomes these challenges, making it a breakthrough in clinical MRI applications.

This advancement represents one of the latest developments in medical imaging, improving both diagnostic accuracy and patient care. As the demand for safer and more efficient imaging techniques grows, systems like IMROC are becoming essential tools in modern healthcare settings.

Veterinary Ultrasound Scanner

As customers have higher and higher requirements for animal reproduction and animal disease diagnosis and treatment, traditional diagnostic methods such as visual inspection, stethoscope listening, thermometer inspection, and percussion and hammering can no longer meet the needs of animal husbandry production and veterinary clinics. Today, B-ultrasound is playing a big role in human medical diagnosis, and in the future, B-ultrasound will also play a role in animal medicine. We should promote the use of veterinary ultrasound scanner step by step according to the actual situation, popularize the knowledge of the use of veterinary ultrasound scanner, take this as an opportunity, and use it as a ladder to improve the level of veterinary practice in our country.
