On the 25th, the Olympic Ward at Union Hospital officially commenced trial operations. This specialized ward is equipped with advanced technology to ensure the safety and comfort of its high-profile patients. One notable feature is the infrared sensor installed in the bathroom. If a patient experiences an emergency in the restroom, they can simply wave their hand near the sensor—without needing to touch a pager—and immediately alert the nursing staff. According to reports, this ward will serve as the primary medical facility for China's top leaders and the highest-ranking officials from the International Olympic Committee during the Olympics.
The Olympic Ward was originally a standard ward that has now been fully renovated into a state-of-the-art medical space. It consists of 22 beds, including 17 single rooms and 5 suites. The facility is equipped with advanced nurse workstations, doctor workstations, medical monitoring systems, a ward call system, fire protection systems, and comprehensive security measures. All the equipment is among the most sophisticated available globally, ensuring the highest level of care and safety.
In case of an emergency in the bathroom, even if a patient cannot reach their pager, they can simply move their hand about 5 cm above the infrared sensor located near the toilet. This action will trigger an immediate alert on the nurse’s display, which will flash red. Nurses will then respond swiftly to provide assistance.
Additionally, the hospital offers a dedicated dietitian to cater to the needs of international guests. Through regular visits, the dietitian will gather information about each patient's food preferences and create personalized meal plans based on their health conditions. Each day’s meals are carefully structured into three portions, with detailed nutritional information such as calories and protein content marked according to international standards. While Chinese cuisine is primarily self-service, the menu is designed to be both nutritious and culturally appropriate.
