Pig breeding has evolved significantly, and the use of hybrid pigs has become a key strategy in modern swine farming. Hybrid pigs benefit from heterosis, which means they combine the best traits from different parent breeds. These advantages include higher reproductive rates, stronger vitality, faster weight gain, better feed efficiency, greater disease resistance, and an improved lean meat ratio. Studies have shown that hybrid pigs outperform local breeds by 15% to 25%, making them a more profitable choice for farmers. To maximize these benefits, it is essential to implement the “three-ization†technique: improving boars, localizing sows, and producing hybrid piglets.
Selecting lighter piglets at an earlier stage can also improve profitability. Instead of buying pigs weighing 10–15 kg, farmers should opt for 25 kg weanlings. This reduces the overall feeding period from six months to four, lowering costs and increasing income by approximately 10%.
Another important change involves managing pigs in groups based on size. Traditional methods often lead to uneven growth, as stronger pigs eat more while weaker ones struggle. Weaned pigs raised on compound feed can be ready for market in 4 to 5 months, allowing farmers to raise two batches per year and save on feed costs.
Finally, shifting from shelf fattening to linear fattening improves efficiency. In traditional systems, pigs are fed full-price compound feed throughout their growth, which increases housing costs and reduces space utilization. Linear fattening, however, adjusts feed quality according to the pig’s age, shortening the fattening period and improving economic returns. This method reduces feeding costs, speeds up capital turnover, and enhances overall profitability.
