Benefit Analysis of Cattle and Sheep

The development trend of Boer goats is increasingly significant in the global meat goat industry. As one of the most renowned large-scale meat breeds, Boer goats originated in South Africa and are now widely distributed across countries like Australia, New Zealand, and Germany. Their population has surpassed 5 million globally. Known for high fertility, rapid growth, excellent meat quality, and strong adaptability, they are often referred to as the "father of the world's meat goats." These goats have a high reproductive rate—females can start breeding at 6 months, with an average of 2-3 births per year, sometimes even up to 4-5 kids. The lambing rate can reach 200%, with some reaching 300%. Adult females can weigh between 60-80 kg, while males can go up to 90-130 kg. Their weight gain is also impressive, increasing by 20-30% in a short time. China has over 170 million goats, but many of them are low-yield or non-meat breeds. To improve meat production, crossbreeding with high-quality breeds like Boer goats is essential. Since 1995, our company has continuously imported Boer goats to support this effort. Although their numbers have reached thousands, there is still a huge demand for crossbreeding with hundreds of millions of local goats. The industrialization of Boer goats needs to be accelerated. Experience shows that Boer goats offer long-term potential in ecological, economic, and social terms. Over the next decade, their development will bring a revolution to China’s meat goat industry, transforming it into a more efficient and profitable sector. Small Tail Han sheep, known as “Super Sheep” and “National Treasure,” is another important breed in China. It is highly valued for its early maturity, fast growth, and high reproduction rates. Ewes can start breeding at 6 months, with an average of 2 litters per year, each producing 3-5 lambs. Lambs grow quickly, reaching weights of 30-50 kg within 4 months. Adult rams can weigh over 100 kg, with some reaching 180 kg. They have a high slaughter rate (52%) and a net meat yield of 40%. Their docile nature and ability to thrive on rough feed make them ideal for small-scale farmers. On average, a ewe can produce 6 lambs annually, generating a net income of around 1,500 yuan. This makes Small Tail Han sheep a key project for rural development and poverty alleviation. For improved cattle, raising modified breeds offers great economic returns. A cow can give birth once a year and reach over 700 pounds within ten months. With market prices averaging 2,500 yuan per head, after deducting costs, a profit of 1,500 yuan can be made. Similarly, raising yaks or other cattle for fattening can also generate similar profits. Experts from the Ministry of Agriculture predict that beef demand will outpace supply within the next decade, leading to rising prices. Cattle farming is therefore a promising path to wealth creation.
