"Measurement formula" Jiangsu Jintan increase income section 28.60 million yuan

Jintan City saw a significant increase in revenue last year, thanks to the successful implementation of its "soil testing and fertilization" program. The initiative, which involves tailoring fertilizers to specific soil conditions, has proven to be highly effective in boosting crop yields and improving farmers' incomes. On January 3, Ni Dingliang, a large-scale farmer from Jintan, expressed his satisfaction with the results. He manages 80 acres of rice fields and used the customized fertilizer formula provided by the local soil testing station. As a result, his income per hectare increased by over 70 yuan, and the overall yield of rice rose by 5,600 yuan per hectare. According to a survey conducted by the Jintan Bureau of Price Administration, the use of soil-testing-based fertilizers for wheat in 2008 led to an additional 47.5 yuan per mu, while rice fertilization boosted income by 68.46 yuan per mu. Overall, the city generated an extra 28.86 million yuan annually through this initiative. "As the doctor prescribes the right medicine, the fertilizer must be properly applied," said agricultural technicians from Jintan. As one of the pilot counties for the Ministry of Agriculture's soil testing and fertilization project, Jintan has developed tailored "fertilizer prescriptions" based on different soil types. This approach not only prevents issues like soil compaction and salinization but also helps maintain balanced soil fertility. Currently, the technology has been applied across 450,000 mu, significantly reducing agricultural costs. In 2008, the city launched the "Million, One Hundred, One Hundred" project, aiming to establish a 10,000-mu demonstration area, with each town creating a 1,000-mu zone and villages setting up 100-mu plots. These areas were combined with agricultural science and technology efforts to continuously improve fertilization techniques. The percentage of households adopting scientific fertilization practices has risen sharply, contributing to higher land productivity. The Jintan Soil Fertilizer Station offers a full-service approach, including soil testing, formula development, fertilizer supply, and application. They have introduced four different compound fertilization methods to suit various farming needs. As a result, scientific fertilization is becoming increasingly popular among local farmers. Today, Jintan has fully implemented soil testing formulas for both rice and wheat, and is actively expanding the practice to economic crops. The city aims to comprehensively promote soil testing and fertilization technology within three to five years, driving the development of environmentally friendly and resource-efficient agriculture.
