Sow classification prolactin technology

The initial milk production in first-time sows, often referred to as "primordial gilts," is commonly due to an underdeveloped lactation system or inadequate nutrient intake. To support their growth and milk production, these sows must receive a balanced diet that meets their increased energy and protein needs. If a primiparous sow produces low milk, it's advisable to supplement her feed with fresh forage, such as chopped and cooked green plants, added to two or three meals per day to enhance milk yield. In cases where sows have insufficient milk supply, the underlying causes should be addressed. The primary approach involves identifying and eliminating the root cause, adjusting the diet, and increasing the intake of juicy, green feeds. A traditional remedy includes feeding 200 grams of fried water and spices along with yellow flowers once daily for 3 to 5 days to stimulate milk production. For overweight sows, fat infiltration in the mammary tissue can interfere with hormone secretion and reduce milk output. In such cases, the use of prolactin, a hormone that stimulates milk production, is recommended. A subcutaneous injection of 500–1000 IU of prolactin per sow, given once daily for up to three days, can significantly improve milk yield. Lean sows producing low milk are often the result of poor nutrition. It’s important to evaluate whether the feed meets the nutritional standards required for lactation and to check for any underlying health issues, such as parasitic infections or infectious diseases. Once the cause is identified and resolved, the focus should shift to restoring the sow’s overall health and enhancing milk secretion through proper nutrition and care. By addressing these factors systematically, farmers can effectively improve milk production in sows, ensuring better growth for their piglets and greater productivity on the farm.
