When will the poultry be slaughtered?

Broilers reach their peak growth at 7 weeks of age, while roosters achieve their maximum weight gain at 9 weeks. The ideal time to market broilers is between 8 and 9 weeks, when they weigh between 1.8 and 2.2 kg. During this period, broilers grow rapidly, have high feed conversion rates, and produce high-quality meat, which leads to better economic returns for farmers. This is the optimal window for maximizing both productivity and profitability. For meat ducks, they can reach up to 2.5 kg at 6 weeks, 3 kg at 7 weeks, and 3.2 kg at 8 weeks. If selling as split meat, it's best to wait until they are 8 weeks old so that the breast meat is fully developed. However, if selling whole ducks, marketing them at 7 weeks is more favorable, as they are still tender and have a better overall appearance. When it comes to meat geese, their growth is typically divided into three stages. From 0 to 20 days, goslings experience rapid growth, increasing their body weight by up to 10 times. However, their resistance to environmental changes is weak during this time, making it crucial to focus on proper feeding and management to improve survival rates and the quality of the young geese. Between 20 and 40 days, geese enter the middle stage, often referred to as "young geese." Although their body size increases, their breast muscle is not well-developed, resulting in a lower slaughter rate and less edible meat. From 40 to 60 days, geese are considered mature. At this stage, farmers often restrict their physical activity to promote fat accumulation, which enhances their body weight and improves meat quality. The meat becomes tender and flavorful, with a higher slaughter rate and more edible portions. After 70 days, geese begin their first molt, which significantly reduces their appetite, causes weight loss, and makes them less suitable for slaughter. Practical experience shows that regardless of the breed, geese grow fastest and gain the most weight between 20 and 60 days. After that, their growth rate declines, and feed costs increase. Therefore, it is most economically beneficial to sell meat geese by the time they are 60 days old.
