"Five Methods" to Identify High Yield Chickens and Low Yield Chickens

In laying hens, the egg production rate has a direct impact on the economic benefits of raising chickens. Timely control of the production performance of individual laying hens, timely elimination of low-yield, cut-off chickens, not only can save feed, but also early recovery costs, killing two birds with one stone.

Egg production age identification

High-yielding chickens start production in time, generally from 170 days to 180 days, and the egg production rate is over 90%.

Identification of physical features

High-yielding chickens are well-developed in shape, have a strong body, have a wide and short head, and are short and thick and curved and strong and powerful. Low-producing chickens generally have narrow and long heads. They are like crow heads, slender, dark eyes, narrow bodies and tight abdomen.

External organ identification

The high-yielding chicken crowns and flesh plump, bright red, warm feeling, anal large and flat, moist. Low-yield chickens or discontinued chicken cocks have atrophy, pale colors, no warmth, and small, round and dry anus.

Finger estimation

The high-yield chicken belly is soft, with loose skin. The pubic bone and the end of the keel can accommodate a palm. The pubic bone has a large space and can accommodate 3 to 4 fingers. Low-yielding chickens or discontinued chickens have tight, small and hardened abdomen. The distance between the ends of the keel and the pubic bone can accommodate 2 fingers to 3 fingers. The pubic bone spacing is small, and the general capacity is 1 finger to 2 fingers.

Pigment change identification

The pigment of high-yielding chickens disappears quickly. Based on the parts where the color disappears, the egg production situation of the chicken can be roughly judged. The yellow color of laying hens, legs, and skin fades very regularly. The order of fading is: anus-eye ring-earlobe-mite-foot-thigh-toe-back-hick. After 15 days to 20 days after the hens have stopped production, the pigments in the various parts of the body begin to gradually recover in the original fade sequence. If the chicken has entered the middle and later stages of production, the anus, cockroach and legs remain yellow, which may be considered as low-yielding chickens.

Based on the above identification methods, comprehensive judgments are made in production, low-yielding chickens are eliminated in time, egg production rate is raised, feed consumption is reduced, and the benefit of raising chickens is improved.
