China completely bans the import and sale of bisphenol A milk bottles

Recently, six departments including the Ministry of Public Health and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine jointly issued the "Notice on the Prohibition of Bisphenol A for Baby Bottles" (Ministry of Health Announcement No. 15 of 2011), with effect from September 1, 2011. It is forbidden to import and sell polycarbonate baby bottle and other infant bottle containing bisphenol A, which is recalled by the manufacturer or importer.

In recent years, EU, Canada, the United States (some states) and other countries and regions have successively issued technical regulations to restrict the import of plastic baby bottle containing bisphenol A. Bisphenol A is a raw material for various polymer materials such as polycarbonate and epoxy resins. These polymer materials are widely used in the production of chemical products and food-related products such as food packaging materials and containers. Bisphenol A can be migrated into foods through food packaging materials and containers. The national standards for food-related products stipulate their migration. Scientific research shows that the amount of bisphenol A migrating in food-related products is extremely small, and bisphenol A has not been found to have adverse effects on human health. In view of the fact that infants and young children are sensitive people, in order to prevent food safety risks and protect the health of infants and children, it has been decided that bisphenol A should not be used for infant feeding bottles.

Therefore, relevant companies should organize their production and operations in accordance with the requirements of the announcement, prohibit the import and sale of polycarbonate baby bottles and other baby bottles containing bisphenol A. Exports should be organized strictly according to the relevant laws and standards of the importing country.
