The strongest optical microscope was successfully developed in the UK

Business News Agency June 8 Researchers have created the world’s most powerful optical microscope in the UK, which will help understand the causes of many viruses and diseases.

By combining optical microscopy with transparent microspheres, which researchers call nanoscale optical microscopy, researchers at the University of Manchester broke the theoretical limitations of optical microscopy.

With the help of this new device, scientists can better explain the causes of many diseases that cause infection and cause death, thus breaking the theoretical limit of optical microscopy.

This work was led by a team of professors Li Lin and Wang Zengbo from China. The tremendous increase in the capabilities of the microscope means that scientists can observe the inside of human cells, and for the first time they can observe living viruses and then identify the cause of the virus.

Previously, standard optical microscope operators could only clearly see objects of a size of about 1 micron (one millionth of a meter). Now, researchers can see 1/20 micron size objects in normal light.

The researchers published the results in the recently published Nature-Communications Journal. The microscope they made broke the record of the smallest object visible to the naked eye, breaking the diffraction limit of light.

The current electron microscope can only see the surface of the cell and cannot observe its structure, and there is no tool to observe live bacteria. Scientists at the University of Manchester believe that in the future, smaller objects can be observed using a microscope. Their method is not subject to any theoretical restrictions on the size of the visible object.

Nano-imaging systems are based on capture optics and near-field virtual images (free from the limitations of light diffraction), and they are amplified using a microscope, passed through tiny ball lenses, and magnified using a standard microscope.

Li Lin said: “This is a world record. A microscope can be so small and can be directly imaged in light containing various spectra... We can not only see objects of 50 nanometer size, but I believe this is just At the beginning, we will also be able to see smaller objects. In theory, we can see how small objects are. There is no limit to this.”

Li Lin thinks: “At present, the common method for observing tiny objects is to use an electron microscope. Even if you can't see the inside of the cell, you can see at least the outside. The optical fluorescence microscope can indirectly observe the interior of the cell by staining the cells, but this kind of Staining can't penetrate the virus," he said. "Without dyeing, we can see the cells directly. We can see the living virus directly and change the way we study the cells. For the first time, we can observe the virus at close range and learn about biomedicine."

According to reports, other objects that scientists were able to observe include electroplated aluminum oxide nanostructures and nanopatterns on a Blu-ray CVC disc, which were previously unseen by optical microscopes.
